Fermanagh Sunflower Field

A few of us went gallivanting to the Sunflower Field at Lappin's Vegetable Farm. 400,000 sunflowers cheerfully swaying in the breeze! Our eyes widened with delight when we saw the sight of them. Such a happy place to spend a morning!

James and Esdille warmly welcomed us and were very generous with their time.

There were so many honey bees merrily collecting nectar. 

The bees had travelled around 2 miles from a nearby apiary. The birds are already attracted to the field to enjoy the seeds on the dead flowers. In another week or two there will be flocks of smaller birds getting fat on the seeds for the winter. 

We were able to pick our own bouquet and the best bit is that it is all for a good cause - all proceeds are split between Friends of the Cancer Centre and Bright Eyes Animal Sanctuary.

We also saw rows of vegetables and a wonderful orchard and were able to purchase home grown produce in the Farm Shop. You've not lived until you've tasted an organic apple straight from the orchard! Summer is almost over and I'm glad we got a chance to do this.

But, if you missed it this year, take heart, James told us that there are plenty of pumpkins budding out for another opportunity to visit for Halloween

Lappins Vegetable Farm is located at 221 Sligo road BT74 5QQ Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh.
